Comfresh lettuce greenhouse Australia Van Der Hoeven

A complete solution for leafy greens cultivation

Experience higher yields, improved efficiency, and optimal climate control with our semi-closed Leafy greens crop greenhouse solutions.

Greenhouse leafy green crops

We design and build advanced greenhouse solutions for leafy greens such as lettuce, herbs and spinach.

These crops demand a highly controlled environment to ensure quality, food safety and year-round production. In recent years, cultivation has shifted rapidly from open fields to high-tech greenhouse solutions that offer greater efficiency and sustainable production.

Proven innovation since 2017

We design and construct complete systems that integrate proven automation with our semi-closed ModulAIR greenhouses

Together with our partners, we also test different varieties in our joint semi-closed trial greenhouse in The Netherlands. These insights allow us to continuously refine our systems.

A major milestone in this transition was the introduction of the Mobile Gully System (MGS) in a semi-closed greenhouse, a world-first implementation by Van der Hoeven in 2017. Since then, the MGS has been successfully implemented in semi-closed greenhouses across the globe, enabling leafy greens to be grown in an extremely controlled, hygienic and space efficient way, while using only a fraction of the water required in traditional methods. While this approach requires a larger upfront investment, it delivers quick returns thanks to high yields and low labor demand.

Semi-closed systems such as our ModulAIR concept further enhance production by creating maximum climate stability, ensuring precise control over CO2, temperature and humidity, and reducing energy use. This makes it possible to achieve consistent, high-quality output even in regions with extreme climates.

Tailored solutions for different leafy crops

Every project is custom made to the client’s specific needs and desired output. A system for baby leaf or teen leaf requires a different design than one for iceberg or whole head lettuce, and combinations are also possible. Some projects focus on a single crop, while others deliver a diverse portfolio of more than eight varieties.

Together with our partners, we are growing many different varieties in our trial greenhouses in The Netherlands and Belgium. These insights allow us to continuously improve our systems.
