Greenhouse for soft fruit production

At Van der Hoeven, we provide complete, innovative solutions that maximize the efficiency and success of your growing operations.

At Van der Hoeven, we design and build advanced greenhouse solutions for soft fruits such as strawberries and blueberries. Traditionally grown in open fields or under conventional glass or plastic greenhouses, these crops are now making the transition into high-tech greenhouses. This shift allows cultivation under strictly controlled conditions, where climate, irrigation and lighting are optimized to deliver consistent quality, higher yields and greater sustainability.

Reliable soft fruit production in any climate

Our semi-closed ModulAIR greenhouse offers unique advantages for soft fruits, ensuring maximum climate stability, precise control over temperature, humidity and CO2 and optimal use of outside conditions. This makes it possible to grow delicate crops like strawberries profitably and reliably in regions with extreme climates. A defining moment was the world’s first semi-closed mechanically cooled strawberry greenhouses, which Van der Hoeven built in 2024 for the NEOM Topian project in Saudi Arabia.

Strawberries in particular have a very short shelf life, which makes it especially valuable to grow them closer to consumers. Local production not only ensures fresher products but also significantly reduces the need for long-distance transport, supporting both quality and sustainability.

Maximizing yield & market demand

Soft fruits are a key focus for our R&D team, as we see major opportunities for strawberries in semi-closed greenhouses, particularly in regions with extreme climates. Through our ongoing research into different cultivation systems and integration with semi-closed technology we stay at the forefront of this transformation. By combining innovation with operational expertise, Van der Hoeven enables growers to produce high quality soft fruits close to the consumer.

Which soft fruits grow well in a greenhouse?

Strawberries, blueberry bushes, raspberries, blackberries, and similar soft fruits thrive with precise irrigation and stable climates.

How is pollination managed in greenhouse?

Pollination is supported by bumblebees or manual techniques to ensure they keep producing fruit consistently.

Can fruits grow year-round in a greenhouse?

Yes. With advanced climate control and CO₂ enrichment, producing fruit year-round with excellent quality.

What is the best cultivation method for greenhouse soft fruits?

Hydroponic and soil-based systems are both suitable. Hydroponics often offers better resource use, especially for long-term efficiency and bountiful harvest.
