Solution
LKP Plants, a leading Dutch Bromeliad grower, joined forces with Van der Hoeven and Logiqs to develop a pioneering semi-closed greenhouse. This innovative project was driven by a shared ambition: to drastically reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions while maintaining premium crop quality.

Innovative solutions

Technologies implemented in this project:

  • The semi-closed greenhouse integrates mobile rolling benches directly connected to the air distribution ducts, allowing them to deliver both water and conditioned air directly to the plants. This dual-function design ensures consistent hydration and climate control throughout the crop area.
  • In combination with the ModulAIR ridge ventilation system, the greenhouse maintains exceptional climate stability. The result? A temperature variation of no more than 1.5 °C across the entire space, even under changing conditions.
  • The secret lies on the side of the greenhouse, the climate chamber. Here, air is brought to the desired temperature and enriched with moisture and CO2. The treated air is then introduced into the greenhouse under positive pressure, allowing for precise climate control.

Hans Koolhaas - Chief Technical Officer at LKP Plants

Our goal was to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% compared to a traditional greenhouse, and we're confident we'll exceed that target.

Project description

LKP Plants, a leading Dutch Bromeliad grower, joined forces with Van der Hoeven and Logiqs to develop a pioneering semi-closed greenhouse. This innovative project was driven by a shared ambition: to drastically reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions while maintaining premium crop quality.

The result is a highly energy-efficient facility in Moerkapelle that combines advanced climate technology with an integrated logistics system. The semi-closed concept allows for greater control over temperature, humidity, and airflow, minimizing heat loss and external influences while optimizing growing conditions year-round. In addition, smart energy management systems ensure that both heat and CO2 are used with maximum efficiency.

Together with Logiqs, Van der Hoeven also integrated an advanced internal transport system, supporting a fully automated workflow that improves productivity and reduces labor intensity. The compact layout and sustainable design reflect LKP's vision for the future of ornamental horticulture: innovative, responsible and scalable.
